“The thrush creating waves … a cross between Nina Simone and Janis Joplin,” wrote Jerry Carroll of the San Francisco Chronicle when he saw Destani Wolf.
“Destani displays a powerful and soulful voice,” said Chuy Varela of Latin Beat magazine. “She put her heart into her delivery with a sanctified bell resonance and clarity. The soulful vocalist has been touring internationally, recording, and has become one of the top names in the San Francisco Bay Area.”
“Her voice resonates a calming air that rhythmically moves the audience,” wrote Varela. “She’ll then let loose a thunderous note that sends their adrenaline rushing. She’ll use her voice to break off into a trumpet improvisation or a wicked scat, which further emphasizes her unique talent.”
Destani performs on Bobi Cespedes’ latest album and recorded with The Pharcyde, on their newest album. She also is featured on three albums with John Santos, including “SF Bay” —nominated in 2003 for a Grammy and a California Music Award.
Grammy nominee John Santos says “Destani Wolf is a name you'll know soon if it's not already etched in your heart. Incredible range, intonation, phrasing, versatility, and streetwise down home funk combine to make hers a unique voice that will marvelously stand the test of time.”
Destani stands out wherever she performs. She has performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Reggae on the River, The Great American Music Hall, The Fillmore, North Beach Jazz Festival, Grand Performances of L.A., The Bottom Line, S.O.B’s of N.Y. for HOT 97’s “Who’s Next” in 2005, Yoshi’s Jazz Club in Oakland to name just a few.
“She’s Bad! I’m amazed that her voice is so strong, yet smooth at the same time,” noted international renowned percussionist Pete Escovedo.
Destani’s professional career took off when she joined the a cappella group SoVoSó in 1999. An evolution of Bobby McFerrin’s Voicestra, SoVoSó is an internationally acclaimed group that released three albums while she was a member. “Bridges” featured two of Destani’s compositions: “For I am the Moon” and “We Will Rise”
In 2000 she joined the electric, eclectic O-Maya (Now AguaLibre, formerly of O-maya). This 10-piece band rocks the dance floor and gives Destani the opportunity to explore Afro-Latin-Hip Hop beats and music. Their debut album “O-Maya” was voted Best of the Bay 2003 by SF Weekly, and Best Latin Performer by East Bay Express 2004, reader’s choice!
While Destani still performs with AguaLibre and Keith Terry’s SLAMMIN All Body Band, she’s now launching a solo career with her first album "Again and Again".
