"Dervish Ceremonies" consists of live recordings of two distinctive elements of the Dervish music from Turkey: the Mevlevi prayers of the whirling dervishes and the Jerrahi prayers of the howling dervishes.

Recorded and compiled by the late Deben Bhattacharya, who was one of the world's leading authorities on folk music, song and dance, and classical music in Europe and Asia. He won international recognition as an expert on ethnic folk music. On hundreds of reels of tape and innumerable photographs Mr. Bhattacharya brought back into sight and sound age-old cultures from remote corners of he globe where folk song and dance had not been touched by modern civilization. Much of Bhattacharya's work was carried out under the auspices of U.N.E.S.C.O.
