Piano soloist David Pihl performs William Thomas McKinley's Concerto in Two Movements

William Thomas McKinley and Florencio Asenjo join forces on this orchestral epic featuring the Warsaw Philharmonic (Kirk Trevor, conductor), Moravian Philharmonic (Vit Micka), and pianist David Pihl. Asenjo, who over the course of a 50+ year career has honed a style which he terms ‘maximalism,’ contributes 3 pieces: EFFUSIONS, FIGURES TAKING FORM, and THE SUPPLICANTS, all showing his rich harmonic palette and ever-shifting melodicism. McKinley, perhaps the most prolific composer of his generation, contributes TWO MOVEMENTS FOR PIANO & ORCHESTRA, a highly energetic work that recalls the rhythmic vitality of Stravinsky, the polyrhythmic elements of Ives, and the thematic excitement of Gershwin.
