DANCER VS. POLITICIAN (formerly known as Panda) is the new project of Audition With Max Reinhardt's Sanni Baumgaertner. After spending six years in Athens, Georgia, soaking up the local music scene, the German native recently headed to Berlin with a newly recorded full length album in her pocket. She is now splitting her time between Germany and the US, with a different line-up of DANCER VS. POLITICIAN in both places.
Influenced by Nico/The Velvet Underground, Belle & Sebastian, and the Postal Service, to name just a few, the sound moves between lush arrangements of strings, horns, glockenspiel, clarinet, musical saw, and incorporates electro influences with layers of vintage keyboards and electronic beats.
One of the tracks on the album, the Nikki Sudden song "Ratcliffe Highway", will be featured on the upcoming Nikki Sudden tribute album "Suddenly Yours" on Sunthunder Records. Sanni Baumgärtner also appears on the recently released last album of Nikki Sudden, called "The Truth Doesn't Matter".
STOMP AND STAMMER calls “A City Half-Lost”... "A WONDROUS MASTERPIECE, LIKE A NICO ALBUM PERFORMED BY GHOSTS AND ANGELS. FIND IT, BUY IT." (Stomp and Stammer, April 2007) and called their performance at The Earl last July (opening for The Mendoza Line) stunning, and picked it as one of last year's best Atlanta shows. (Stomp and Stammer, December 2006).
Produced by Andy Baker (The Glands, Azure Ray), Sanni Baumgaertner, and Matt Yelton (The Pixies, Frank Black), the album "A City Half-Lost" features a number of Athens and Berlin musicians, among them members of Phosphorescent, The Olivia Tremor Control, The Glands, and Five-Eight. It was self-released in the US on March 16th of 2007 and will be available in Germany later in 2007.
