The foundation of Crystal City was laid in the spring of 2002 when singer/songwriter/guitarist Will Agee and multi-instrumentalist Stephen Lorek began their musical relationship. Together, they formed a band based in the Washington DC area. Most commonly known as the Freedom Fighters, this band went through many other names including Jarvis and Chemical Life.
After three years of recording and performing with this band, Will and Steve had to move to opposite ends of the country for college in the fall of 2005. Will, along with dormmate and lead guitarist Grahame Lesh, formed a band based at Stanford University known as Dirty Blonde which included keyboardist Jesse Engreitz. Meanwhile, Steve had continued to make music with drummer/percussionist Dylan Mulcahy, who had been a member of Chemical Life since the beginning of summer 2005.
During Christmas break in December of 2005, Steve came to California where Will introduced the idea of forming a supergroup featuring members of Chemical Life and Dirty Blonde. Though the process of forming this group was obstructed by the fact that 3 members lived on the West Coast and the other 2 lived on the East Coast, they pushed forward.
With Steve finally settling on an instrument (bass), the band was complete. Will, the lead vocalist and rhythm guitar player; Grahame, the lead guitarist; Jesse, the keyboardist; Steve; the bassist, and Dylan on drums played their first rehearsal on Monday, May 29th 2006.
Crystal City has recently recorded their first EP entitled "Finding the Sun" It was recorded and produced by engineer Mike "Albany" Boden at the legendary Plant Studios in Sausalito, CA from June 3rd through June 5th, 2006. In addition, they played a summer tour at select side stages for Phil Lesh & Friends and Trey Anastasio in the summer of 2006.
