crossingpoint are four guys from Durban, South Africa who play positive, progressive hardcore music. Founded by brothers Wesley (vocals, sampler/keyboards) and Brandon Van Eeden (guitar) in 1998, their sound has developed with numerous member changes and responses to what they see in the scene around them. Joined by Ross Turpin(bass) and Ricky de Beer(drums), the band is a tight group of friends who play a passionate and often brutal synthesis of metal, hxc and electronics with a positive, relevant message.
In a world where hardcore music is slowly being embraced by a wider audience, many bands have watered down their message to suit the listener. Where it used to be about an uncompromising message in response to societal problems, these days it seems to mostly be about the sound, with any sort of message being secondary. crossingpoint have stayed true to their roots by playing creative, energy-driven music with a message that demands application. It's hard to go to a crossingpoint show and leave unchanged. Whether you're screaming your lungs out with the band or following their lyrics on their lyric sheets handed out before each show, theirs is a power and a passion that few bands achieve.
All stops have been pulled out in terms of recording, production and presentation of the album. In what is probably a first for a South African band, it comes as an eye catching 6 panel 'digipak' package!
This self-titled album is the first full length offering, and is released independently. For obvious reasons, heavy and thought-provoking music has little support from labels in South Africa, so an independent release made the most easiest sense, especially as it meant that the band could remain in full creative control of the message and the sound that they want to convey. With the release of the full length, crossingpoint hope to communicate with a wider audience who may not be able to attend their shows.
The world is never going to change over night. Real change happens in the minds and hearts of individuals who can go on to effect others. crossingpoint's urgent and honest message dealing with issues such as sexism, loyalty and personal responsibility, is aimed at reaching the individual in a thoughtful way and helping them to see the world for what it truly is.
