John Peel declared his love for Liverpool's Cranebuilders after hearing their debut EP Bitch, released on their own Ten People Tell label, and invited the band to London to record their first of several Peel sessions. Soon fellow Radio 1 DJs Steve Lamaq and Marc Radcliffe along with XFM, BBC Radio 6 and BBC Radio 2 also began to champion the band and they followed up this success with the release of two more E.Ps: Youre Song and Just Idleness. More radio sessions followed, along with tours and support slots for bands including The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Elbow, The Magic Numbers, The Wedding Present, The Fall and I Am Kloot, Their debut album Sometimes you hear through someone else was released on Skinny Dog records and to promote the release the band toured extensively culminating in an appearance at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. They recorded their first video for the albums much praised So What Could I do single, which showcased the bands dancing talents and resulted in their full TV debut on Channel Fours influential 4Music show soon after. After promoting the release of the albums highly acclaimed second single Public Space, Cranebuilders began working on new material, now with guitarist Jack Jelfs on board. Inspired by the new songs they entered the studio in spring 2006 with producer Markus Dravs and began to record their second album. Recording was briefly interrupted while the band toured Germany to promote Sometimes you hear through someone else and used the opportunity to test out the new material. They returned to the UK brimming with confidence and Pilsner and after a few low-key dates in the UK, Cranebuilders are now setting about the task of putting the finishing touches to the recordings and preparing themselves for a US tour in the autumn.
