"THE LEGEND OF IS: Her mother was Malvgen, Queen of the Night Star, ruler of the North. Her father was Gradlon, King of Cornauille, the great Sea Warrior. She was Dahut the Golden, born in the waves and foam as they rode upon Morvarc'h, Horse of the Sea. The King built his daughter a City emerging from the Sea, with great golden gates to keep out the tides, and he alone kept the key. Knights and Princes came from far lands to seek the beautiful Princess. But she followed the ancient ways and betrothed herself to the Sea with a song, "Ocean Beautiful, Ocean Blue, roll me in the waves. I am thy betrothed..." Each day she took a new lover, and each night put an Enchanted Mask upon him. Then at sunrise, with the song of the meadowlark, he cast himself into the Bay of Trespasses and was taken by the Sea. In the spring, a Red Prince arrived in the city, and captured the heart of the Princess. He stayed with her from dark til dawn as a tempest raged. He convinced her to steal the key from her sleeping father, and give him the city. As she slipped the key from the chain around her father's neck, a great wave engulfed the city. The King escaped on magical Morvarc'h, taking his daughter with him, but the Sea was furious with the Princess. and though the horse reared upon the waves with lightning and a thunderous echo, Dahut was taken by the Sea. The City was flooded. At low tide in the Bay of Douarnenez, you can see the ruins of Is rising above the sea. The Princess became a mermaid, and still sings her Morrigan's Song on moonlit nights."
