COASTAL's music is an inspired blend of restraint and tonal splendor. A delicate vocal presence, smooth basslines, wispy drum movements, melodic guitar work, and a subdued organ enmesh to make the music flow with a vibrancy that is truly beautiful. The Provo, Utah band released their debut self-titled album for Words On Music in March 2001. Songs from the album were played by John Peel on his BBC Radio 1 show.
In May, 2001 the UK independent label Becalmed Records released the Northern / Cinder 7". A 10" of new material entitled Winter was released in 2002 on Dreams by Degrees and later the same year a split CD with Midsummmer 2002 featuring five new tracks was released on Sunseasky.
In 2004 COASTAL recorded their second full-length album, Halfway To You, released by Words On Music. The album features nine new songs that highlight the Gough's breathtaking interweaving vocals. The album includes an appearance by Helen Maltby of Lorna.
COASTAL has performed live in Utah and on the West Coast, including opening for luminaries such as Low, American Analog Set, The Czars and The Autumns.
