Classic jazz album by stylistic leader and pianist, Cecil Taylor recorded at the heigh of his powers. Also features Clark Terry.
Real jazz in the making is on this Classic jazz album by the stylistic leader and pianist, Cecil Taylor whose playing has proved to be the inspiration behind almost two generations of pianists, as well as many other musicians.
This session was recorded in 1961 when Cecil Taylor was at the height of his powers and at the forefront of avant-garde jazz.
Cecil made his recording debut in 1955 and from that date onward it was obvious that Cecil had arrived at a highly personal style. The percussive nature of his playing is a vital part of his music, which has continued to develop.
Today he has become an accomplished solo performer with great success with his music for contemporary.
Recorded in 1961, this session found him in the company on men conversant with his music, and most especially with his group requirements. It was at the time of this recording, when Cecil Taylor was at the forefront of the avant garde and the jazz on the album reflects that era. Like all good music it has not dated.
Lineup includes Clark Terry (trumpet), Roswell Rudd (trombone), Steve Lacy (soprano sax), Archie Shepp (tenor sax), Charles Davis (baritone sax), Cecil Taylor (piano), Buell Neidlinger (bass), Billy Higins (drums) and Dennis Charles (drums).
