Contemporary composer Carl Vollrath's pieces for chamber brass featuring Czech Chamber Players

While modern in flavor, Vollrath's chamber pieces employ earlier forms, like the march or the rhapsody, so often performed in nineteenth-century recitals. Most have programmatic aspects, like the works of Franz Liszt. Yet many also contain jazz constructs and have moments of melancholic introspection. Most of the time, the piano is an equal partner with the brass, rather than an accompanist.

A much anticipated two-cd-set of Vollrath's works featuring such luminaries as clarinetist Richard Stoltzman is due from MMC Recordings in early 2007.
