Cape Nape started his journey as an artist in 2001. The Foundation followed soon thereafter, once PKA Cape Nape and Narinder Singh AKA Napz realised there was a need to elaborate on their jam sessions in Cape Nape's Mama & Papa's garage in Vantaa, Finland.
Jouni Kari the band’s first collaborator soon begun to compose songs together with Cape Nape. Eventually they both realised that, as musicians, they spoke the same language. These inaugurating members of The Foundation were soon joined by three nationally renown musicians, Antti Kana, a flute player, Tero Rantanen, a well known percussionist and Kristian Merilahti, a multi-talented drummer.
In the beginning, the sounds and the direction of the band were largely created by Napz on the bass and the guitar. Jouni, whose background is in classical music and jazz, enriched the sound of CNF with his keyboards and the drums, creating the heartbeat and the pulse for their rhythmical direction.
The following year Cape Nape found a studio and rehearsal place in Pitäjänmäki, Helsinki where he could start to keep reference and expand his singer songwriting talent.
Another year passed and this period was the time when the band was searching for its core, the niche which all artists seek to when they have made a connection with the muse. It was during this time that they met with Quincy Linton who first suggested the name Cape Nape. With his multifaceted talents in working with a wide cross-section of music in all forms and without limitations he became a mentor for Nape and Jouni, and this turned out to be a major coo for the enthusiastic budding artists. When the band had a new idea, the permutations were seemingly endless, as there were so many ways and styles to drop it. This ability to create variations on how the band can drop them is still one of the main nuclei behind its music.
Next there was a period of huge investments to get a modern and professional recording and production studio in house and to upgrade the band’s technological basis. By this time, The Dynamic Trio, Singh Kari and Linton had notched up to their acclaim a catalogue of thirty songs and were busy creating more.
In the spring 2004 a Chinese whisper started to ricochet through Helsinki as the band wanted to expand its foundation. It wasn't long before musicians started dropping in for auditions and jams. Percussionist Tero invited Daniel Iiskola (bass) to one of the CNF jam sessions in what was now their new HQ and everything started to click like it was meant to be. There was mutual satisfaction and it was inevitable that Daniel became the official bass player member of CNFoundation.
The same year the lightning stroke twice when a powerful force guided Petri Jormanainen A.K.A Beatmaster Pete to contribute additional bleeps and pulses with counter rhythms behind the MPC sampler, and as the renown composer Boris joined the band as a lead guitarist, bringing along his Latin influences. Further, our good friend from a long way back, Jaakko Markkanen made his entrance, adding just the right spice to this soup, making it bubble stronger and stronger. Jaakko is a master of various instruments including for example the sitar, banjo, cello and mandolin. Later in 2004 the lovely Venla Saartamo joined the band and in the first gigs there was also Kristiina Salo and Anna Kaisa Makkonen as the foundation backing singers.
Toward the end of 2004 Narinder, Jouni and Quincy decided it was time to establish CNF Broadcasting Corporation LTD, CapeMount Records and Phat-a-Phat Productions. Antti Patronen a.k.a HantH joined the network of CNF to maintain stability in that all important role as the Studio manager of the Lion Sound Studios, a trademark of CNFBC.
In 2005 we started working with various projects and side projects with the renown artists and musicians Siiri Nordin and Yoel Terry. Mr. Terry is a very respected and well known flute player from Cuba. During his early years, whilst living in Cuba, he was First Flutist in the City Orchestra of Havana, and actually it should be noted that he was Antti Kana's flute teacher in the mid 90’s. Also Mrs. Nordin has made a remarkable career in Finland as a singer.
So far to date, the band has done several gigs and while hard at work with the foundation, practising to perfect their craft for upcoming events. After releasing the debut single "Countless Ways" the band has been seeking for its final form. The first change was to get a real horn section and it was found just before the single release event, with Ville Nissinen in trombone, Kalevi Louhivuori in trumpet and Jussi Paavola in saxophone joining the band. After this, they all became regular members of the Foundation. Next our drum player Kristian had to move to the production side, and we got Joonas Leppänen who had much more jazzier style to play, so that the Foundation sound now had the right kind of dynamics. After Venla bounced to South-America, the band also needed new back-up singers, and Kalevi introduced his wife Johanna Louhivuori aka Yona to the band. As a professional singer Yona wanted to get a second voice to create strong harmonies, and asked her colleague Sannaliisa Ilkka to join the band. The chemistry seemed to be right. The last change was to find a new lead guitarist and the answer was Mikko Korhonen who was already a good friend of many of the band members and who is also known as a sharp and talented musician. Now CapeNape & The Foundation was ready to work on live set and recordings for the next release.
All the CNF musicians are very dedicated and critical of their own work. With hard work and perseverance, they have managed to create their sound from various sources and styles from all over the world with their own unique sense of styles.
We hope that our sound will please you too! With God’s Blessings!
