that summer was so exciting, 1997, the air in gainesville was full of electricity and everything seemed possible. steve, dan and josh started playing together that summer; it was a beautiful two chord drone, steve and dan playing guitar and josh playing his beat-up slingerland drum-kit. there were no songs written during this period and the lack of focus doomed us. so, when josh started playing with crush 22 (with estelle), we stopped playing together.
fast forward to february 1998. crush 22 had just broken up. josh was still enamored with the idea of sensitive pop music, he's a smart boy though, he knew that he'd need some talented friends to bring along. asking ex-crush 22ers proved to be futile, too many personal issues were involved. he remembered last summer and knowing that both of his friends were talented decided that a practice was in order. that first practice we wrote a song, four words.
over the next year, between every member (except steve) taking seperate trips to europe, we wrote a bunch of songs. throwing away the bad ones, keeping the gems. we all have a pretty good ear so we never really get to the point of recording bad songs. they stay in that room.
so we wrote an album, ten songs in all. it was a struggle and almost a year later we're still proud of it. it's just been released in japan with two extra songs. since the album, changes have been made. estelle has made a journey out west but we're still in contact with her on an almost daily basis. what will happen next with the brittle stars? we couldn't tell you, we decided we needed some time away from each other but now we're itching to play with one another again. west coast tour, japan?
