2008 marks a whole new year for Bitch as she launches her own record label, Short Story Records, releases her first recording with her new band B+TEC and comes into her own as a record producer.
Bitch is an entertainer who calls New York City home. (You may know her from her former band Bitch and Animal Righteous Babe Records, or John Cameron Mitchell’s movie Shortbus) She is a musical beat poet multi-instrumentalist who uses the electric violin to rock but also expresses herself on bass guitar, keyboards and ukulele. Renowned as a compelling live performer, B. doesn’t just command the stage, she owns it.
Bitch’s first recording since leaving her former band was “Make This/Break This” released on Kill Rock Stars in fall 2006. It is performance-arty, heartfelt and pushy and received rave reviews internationally.
After recording “Make This/Break This,” Bitch formed her own band, called Bitch + The Exciting Conclusion, or B+TEC, for short. The three members are Bitch, drummer Lee Free (Circus Amok) and keyboard/bassist/singer Gabriel Kubitz. They have recorded a 5 song EP that will be released in time for spring 2008’s tour. It is their first recording together and effectively captures their live sound and energy.
Bitch also spent this past winter producing “Boulder,” a collection of songs written and performed by her folk-hero Ferron. Bitch made the entire record on her laptop this winter, camping out in the woods in her RV outside of Ferron’s house to record the legend herself. She then took the tracks on the road and back home again to finish “Boulder.” The album includes musical performances by Ani DiFranco, Sam Parton (Be Good Tanyas), J.D. Samson (Le Tigre) and the Indigo Girls (all women artists who cite Ferron as a major inspiration). From May until August Bitch will tour with Ferron in support of the release of “Boulder.” Bitch will accompany Ferron on stage, making for a powerful, highly entertaining show.
