Arthur Dodge and the Horsefeathers is a rock’n’roll band from Lawrence, Kansas. The son of a son of a son of a Baptist preacher, Arthur transplanted the family trade to a different pulpit with songs about personal demons, carnal lust and the search for redemption through the strings of a cheap guitar. The Horsefeathers formed in 1995 when Arthur Dodge decided to “go electric.” Hoping to combine rootsy rock’n’roll with poignantly crafted songs, he found a willing conspirator in longtime songwriting partner Matt Mozier, who had recently ended his tenure with Truck Stop Love, a band that had backed Arthur on portions of his album Arthur Dodge and Matthew’s Mule.
In 1997, Arthur Dodge and the Horsefeathers released their self-titled debut to excellent reviews, and received seven nominations and three “Klammies,” an award presented by Kansas City alternative newspaper The Pitch Weekly, recognizing regional musical talent. In 1998, the Horsefeathers were awarded two more “Klammies” for their album Cadillacs, Ponytails & Dirty Dreams. The current Horsefeathers lineup solidified early in that year, when Arthur and Matt recruited Jeremy Sidener, an original member of the international cult-favorite band, ZOOM, and Kenny Pingleton, another veteran of the regional scene. The Horsefeathers have established a formidable following, appearing at the annual CMJ Music Festival in New York and South By Southwest in Austin, TX, as well as frequent shows in the Kansas City area and elsewhere. Now the Horsefeathers are preparing to release their fourth album, Room #4, their most mature, addictive record yet.
