Alberto Rojo was born in Tucuman. He started studying piano when he was 6 years old and, several years later, he discovers the guitar. He taught himself to play, until in 1980 he gets a scholarship to study in the Camping Musical Bariloche with Eduardo Frason.
Later on he studied composition with Pamela Decaer in Michigan and guitar in the Jazz Sessions of the Berklee School of Music in Boston. Between 1979 and 1989 he was a member of the Gaudeamus ensemble of old music, offering many performances all over Argentina.
Since 1990 he took part in many guitar festivals, such as the one of Costa Rica (Luis Zumbado), Konoxville Guitar Society, Tennessee (Larry Long) and, in several ocassions in the Festival de Guitarras organized by Juan Falu. In his cd Para mi sombra –published by Acqua Records- he had guests such as the percussionist Facundo Guevara (Liliana Herrero, Pedro Aznar) and Diego Clemente (Jaime Torres, Pedro Aznar, Lito Vitale) in charango and aerofanos.
Mercedes Sosa invites him to join her at the Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada on March 28th, 2002, and on April she invites him to join her again on her tour around Argentina.
Alberto Rojo recorded two songs (“Chacarera del fuego” and “Zamba de Argamonte”) with Mercedes Sosa for her new album that is currently being recorded by the prestigious German label Deusche Grammophon.
Rolling Stone magazine –in the Argentinian version- named Para mi sombra as one of the top five records of Argentinian folk music of 2003.
