OUR PAST
Active Ingrediants started in 1992. We recorded our first demo in 1993 Beer City Records pick us up and released that recording as a 7" record early in 1994. The band went on a 5-week tour to support our record. At the end of 1994 the band was featured on the Looney Bin Records comp. C.D. We also went back into the studio to record a new 7" for Beer City Records, which was released early 1995. We planned on a tour that summer but the booking agent turned out to be a liar. Late 1995 we went to Madison, WI. to record a full length C.D. for Beer City Records, titled "Every Thing Sucks". It was released early 1996 and was featured as the Thrasher Magazines give away when you subscribe promo in March 1996. That summer we went on a 2-month tour to promote the C.D. Later in 1996 Active Ingrediants was featured on the Punk Wish comp. C.D. all the money made off of it was donated to the Make A Wish Foundation for dying kids. 1997 we were featured on the Possible Problems comp. C.D. In 1998 our long time friend and bass player Scott got married and quit the band. We couldn't find anybody we liked or trusted to take his place, so Dennis traded in his guitar equipment for bass gear, turning us into a 3 piece. In 1999 Jeremy, Ben, and Dennis went into the studio, the first time as a 3 piece and recorded "The Balls Out Way Of Life" C.D. for Firmament Records. Musically this was the best stuff we'd ever done, but the lyrics were very rude and vulgar. It was released Feb. 2000. Later that year we went back into the studio and recorded some new songs for a Beer City Records comp. C.D. and a My Own Wallet Records comp. C.D. both C.D.s were released the beginning of 2001.
OUR CHANGE OF LIFE
I think the biggest accomplishment of them all has happened recently. Late 2000 my life was meaningless and I felt very alone depressed and sick of life. I was invited to Valley Bible Fellowship so I went. I didn't know why but I felt peace there so I kept going. Every time I went it made more and more sense to me, after about 3 months I gave my life to God. I was still playing shows with the band but somehow it didn't feel right anymore. I didn't feel good singing the same vulgar songs. During this time I was talking with the rest of the band and praying for them, I even put our band name up on the prayer wall at church. Finally my good friend and bass player of the band Dennis decided he needed to change his life too. He stopped drinking and smoking pot; God had already helped me quit my addictions a few months earlier. Dennis and I decided to put it all on the altar for God, us our music and our band. In May 2001 we went out to the foothills and burned all the C.D.'s we had of our band and gave it all to our Lord Jesus Christ. Our drummer at that time didn't really seem to care about changing his life or what Dennis and I wanted to do with the band. We tried to help him but he didn't want help. Dennis and I read the bible and prayed about the situation and we felt like God was saying get rid of the guy, so we did. 2 days later I met our new drummer Javier at Valley Bible. At the end of summer 2001 I locked myself in my room with my guitar and my bible and wrote a bunch of new songs. The 3 of us got together and practiced the new songs for a couple of months. Active Ingrediants started playing shows again in November 2001. We released a 5 song e.p. c.d. in April 2002 and a full length c.d. "The Hymns of Holyhardcore" May 2003. We went on the road for 3 straight months with the e-tour 2 days after our c.d. was released. We also toured with the e-tour for a month in 2004. I am very thankful for the second chance God has given me for my life, music and the band. The goal of Active Ingrediants is to go out to the world and show our brothers & sisters love through Christ.
( A note by Beer City) Active Ingrediants singing about God has not slowed down their music , aggression or their balls out way of writing and playing songs. They still play killer hardcore and they never preach at the crowd. As they like to say “ Were taking care of business Old Testament style!”
(update 04/30/08) Unfortunately Active Ingrediants decided to call it a day recently.
