As band member George once claimed, “if we saw each other all the time, we might have written 30 albums a year”.
So with the long distance relationship going, the new album “Yzordderrex”, a follow-up to 2003's 2nd album “Drink from my bastard grail”, took a modest 2-years to make. Despite the band's reluctance, 2 by bukowski were constantly being described as Europe's answer to God Speed You Black Emperor. The two bands, sharing perhaps the grand and magnificent landscape of their music, but the similarity ends here. 2 by bukowski slowly let their heavy metal influence shown through in their 2nd album. Carrying on in this direction, the new album, “Yzordderrex” is the heaviest yet. However, the atmospheric and melancholic sound that established the band is still there, accompanied with aggressive guitars and slow build-up sound structure, the songs are packed with highs and lows, sharp corners and surprises. First song “Satageus” defines the vision of the album with its glorious intro, cutting and heavy guitars, followed by a calm interlude and an intense crescendo, a brave attempt in seeking a different approach on heavy rock. Old fans will be pleased with songs like “Cryptic use of Pointers” and “Rise of the midnight sons”, a slight return to their trademark tension building and dreamy ambient landscape. Although mainly instrumental, 2 by Bukowski had their first experiment with vocals in their last album, with a little help from Karine Charff of AMP. This time, the band decided to take things into their own hands and the outcome is very different. The added vocals, which come at the later part of several songs, are almost like the band's own declaration of their rock music roots.“Yzordderrex” sees 2 by Bukowski take their musical journey to another stage. Maturing in building their own unique captivating sound with spirits as uncompromising and inventive as ever.
